RED WINE STAINS
As with any stain make sure that you do not let it sit for long or it will set into the carpet/upholstery fibers. As soon as you notice a spill grab a white towel / paper towel and blot the stain to remove as much liquid as possible. Make sure you blot the stain using an up and down motion. Do not rub the stain as it can damage the carpet fibers. Once you notice that you are getting very little red on your towel, lightly spritz the area with water, this will help dilute the remaining wine. Continue blotting until the carpet is mostly dry. If the stain is still visible you can try one of the following methods-
METHOD ONE:
Mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water. Soak a white towel in the mixture and dab on the stained area. This should loosen the stain from the carpet fibers. Use a second towel to blot up the liquid as you go alternating the vinegar mixture and blotting. Blot until dry with a clean towel and once fully dry vacuum the area.
Method Two:
Mix 1/4 cup of Hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup of water. Soak a white towel in the mixture and dab on the stained area. Allow the mixture to seep into the stained area. Allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes, then lightly spritz with water and blot with a dry towel. Once the area is fully dry vacuum. NOTE: Hydrogen Peroxide is a bleaching agent – prior to using test a small area of carpet in a closet to make sure it does not bleach your carpet.
If stain persist make sure you call a professional to assist in removal – remember – the longer you allow a stain to set into the carpet the less likely it will come out of the fibers.
